HLAC-1520 Hiking
The Bell Canyon Trail
This was the first hike and this picture is the beginning of the trail. Here is our instructor Mr. Dulaney on our first day of class. We started the hike at 1:30.
About 20 minutes into the hike you will find this reservoir. No swimming but you can fish with a lour if you have a licence to fish.
There was a lot of water in the stream that fed into the reservoir.
The water was very cold and refreshing.
Our destination was the water fall. I arrived at 3:45 and it was worth the hike which was not easy and when you turn around you get this view of the valley. It was 4:45 by the time I reached the bottom where the trail started.
Grandeur Peak #2
This was our second hike and it is in Mill Creek Canyon. We started the hike at 1:20.
These water falls were at the beginning of the trail and were actually very small in size.
There were a lot of wild flowers up toward the top of the hike and these are some of them.
Here is a snake that crossed in front of me while hiking the trail.
It was 3:30 when I reached the top of the trail. This is looking southwest.
This is looking directly west.
This is looking northwest and you can see Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake.
This is the view from the trail about 3 quarters up. It was 5:00 when I reached the bottom of the trail.
Historic Pioneer Trail #3
Here is our third hike at the beginning of the trail.
We started at 1:30 on our historic journey.
This water is only present at the start of the trail. Here I'm standing on the bridge.
Here are a couple of stagnant ponds about 3 quarters the way up.
Here is a bench that was next to a dry reservoir toward to top.
This is a monument at the top of the hike.
It was 3:30 when we reached the top. Here is Michelle, a class mate relaxing on a bench at the top. It was 5:00 by the time we arrived at the bottom of the trail.
Mount Aire #4
I was unable to make this hike.
Gobblers Knob #5
Here we are at the beginning of our fifth hike. It was 1:30 when we started.
Here I am at the half way marker. This hike was brutal because of all the flies that were there.
Here I am looking up at the basin of Gobblers Knob.
It was 2:55 when I reached this point at the basin of Gobblers Knob.
I didn't climb to the top of Gobblers Knob but there were no flies and it was cooler up here. It was 4:00 when I reached the bottom of the trail.
Neffs Canyon #6
Here is the sixth hike and the beginning of the trail. It was 1:20 when we started hiking.
This is a dry river bed which is mostly what the trail was.
More trail.
More trail of dry river bed.
This is around half way and now there is water in the stream.
This water is very cold and the rocks are very slippery.
There were not a lot of flowers on this hike but I found some.
More water.
This water fall was bigger than this picture seems to be. It was very cold and delicious.
This is as far as I made it by 3:00 and I reached the bottom at 4:00. You can see the valley from here.
Desolation Trail #7
There was no school because of a holiday so there was no hike.
White Pine Trail #8
This is our last hike of the semester and it was the best hike of all. Here is the beginning of the trail. It was 1:30 when we hit the trail head.
It doesn't take long and you run into this wonderful bridge and river.
You can't see it but behind these ladies is a natural fountain like enclosure and stream crossing the trail. It was very cool to see.
Here's one with half the troop. I wish we could see the waterfall fountain.
The trail is very level and flat. It has rocks and sand but remains at a low incline for most of the trail.
About a 1/3 the way up the trail meets a river bend where you can cool off with cold refreshing mountain spring water.
Towards the top there are beautiful flower and rock patterns.
By 3:00 I reached a cool waterfall and again the picture does not do it justice. It wasn't very big but it was still nice to see. My view as I looked back and started down was this picture below.
This mountain country is awesome to experience and just about anyone can make this hike, young and older folks can enjoy the benefits of hiking. It was 3:52 when I reached my car but that's because I jogged most of the way back. I would recommend this course to anyone, it was fun.
